Terra Floresta Nature Reserve

Amazon Emotions’ headquarters is located inside a private nature reserve in the north of the state of Brazilian Amazon, named Terra Floresta, with in 667 acres covered by primary and lush rainforests providing a variety of natural habitats. This area provides an important haven that, together with the APA Caverna do Maroaga (Environmental Protection Area), serves as a wildlife corridor for the incredible diversity species in this region, many of which are endemic to the area.

Has being implanted a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) to set aside in perpetuity for the purpose of conserving this virgin land of Brazil’s biological diversity. Setting up a RPPN, is a voluntary act on the part of the owner of the property, being the main beneficiaries the natural environment of the area and next generations (locals and visitors).

This prominent reserve was decided divided into geographic areas, each having its own specific function, such as: tourism, conservation, research and monitoring. These areas are managed by an incredible team whose members have great expertise in different areas (biology, conservation, management, education, ecotourism, etc).

The forest reserve where Amazon Emotions is located has a strategic plan for conservation since are at the borders in the east of the Balbina Dam reservoir and the Uatumã Biological Reserve, a very important Amazonian conservation area that covers 940,358 hectares (2,323,680 acres), and to the north it is contiguous to the Indigenous Territory Waimiri Atroari.

Research

Amazon Emotions is fully committed to making a significant positive impact on biodiversity conservation in the Amazon. All of our project-related activities are directed from our Brazilian Amazon headquarters in Presidente Figueiredo. In 2019, a RAPELD module for creating a long-term ecological research site is being installed with the support of CENBAM (The Amazonian Biodiversity Studies Centre) and their PPBio (Research Program on Biodiversity) group. This is going to provide a research station for scientists in the rainforest. Our goal is to teach the local communities about the value of their natural resources and to educate the international community and visitors about biodiversity.

All this research helps the region in a number of ways. For example; the knowledge generated is passed on to the guides who work at Amazon Emotions, which in turn will enrich the experience of our guests and enhance our environmental education projects. This endeavour also contributes directly and indirectly, to society in general by providing information about the conservation of this region. This project intends to serve as a model for sustainable conservation and can be replicated throughout the Amazon.

Science and Conservation

As a tour operator company, Amazon Emotions runs a management program for the reserve that includes the following:

column-service-1

Conservation

Creating nature reserves, recovering imperiled wildlife, implementing ecological agriculture and developing projects that combine the conservation of biodiversity with socioeconomic development.

service-5

Environmental Education

Offering forest immersion courses that are a blend of practical and theoretical classes about the ecosystem, using scientific methodologies, in an effort to create a positive relationship with the forest.

column-service-6

Research

Encouraging research and support for development and make infrastructure and facilities available to researchers, under agreements with Brazilian and foreign institutions.
