Why Travel With Us?
Most Travelers Never See the Real Brazilian Amazon. With Us, You Will.
Visit the Less-Traveled Northern Amazon
Our unusual itineraries focus on more remote destinations away from the standard tourist track. Here, we’re surrounded by pristine tropical rainforest within a 667-acre private biological reserve. Regular tourists—even those who have been to Amazon many times with other tour operators—rarely see this unspoiled region only 144 kilometers from the city of Manaus.
Enjoy a Private Rainforest Experience
Absorb the jungle’s sensory stimuli as you enjoy a private rainforest trip, delighting in spotting frogs, iguanas, monkeys, parrots, toucans, and lizards at your own pace. A far superior experience to noisy, large group outings, let our expert staff work directly with you to design a personalized journey based on your interests. With our professional assistance, you and your chosen travel companions can select your dates and activities.
Small Groups Make For a Better Experience
Our journeys accommodate a maximum of 7 guests for hiking and tree climbing excursions, cared for by our professional crew. While other companies offer trips that combine various large groups, ours is the most intimate family-based Amazon experience out there. You’ll share wondrous natural encounters with a few other guests who share your passion for the natural world.
Fresh Organic Home-Style Cuisine
Amazon Emotions Jungle Lodge produces approximately 50-70% of the food consumed onsite. The kitchen is on a raised open platform, fully equipped with a wood stove and oven. We harvest the seasonal fresh vegetables and fruit by hand, which grows walking distance from our kitchen. The processing that occurs between the farm and kitchen is minimal, and the attention to detail is extensive, ensuring freshness and quality. Needless to say, this also greatly reduces waste. If you’re curious, just take a peek into our kitchen; our open layout invites you to watch us work.
Accompanying each journey is a diverse team of experts–from naturalists to regional specialists — who will share their knowledge and insights on wildlife, landscapes and local culture. Not only do they undergo rigorous guide training based on WCS scientific research, they are also selected for their ease with children and ability to relate to young travelers.
Make Your Own Adventure
Although our pre-planned itineraries are already curated for smaller groups, since that’s how natural exploration is best experienced, our customized trips take this a step further: Your private adventure is explicitly tailored to your group’s needs and interests, whether you’re traveling with immediate family, multi-generational groups, friends or business associates.
Amazon Emotions is a Wildlife Conservation Society Partner
Working in alliance with the Wildlife Conservation Society, Amazon Emotions aims to leave behind a positive legacy by supporting conservation projects in the Amazon. Since March of 2018, our pledge to natural preservation has only strengthened with the launch of the Jaguar Vision Project, a unique way for science-lovers to learn about modern science and explore the jungle. We invite you to venture deep into these efforts, helping us monitor our trap cameras located in different locations along the natural trail that you will walk as you “follow the Jaguar” on his path.
Day 1 – Depart from Manaus
Day 1 – Waterfall Visit / Amazon Emotions Jungle Lodge
At 9:00 a.m. you will be taken by car to the Amazon Emotions Jungle Lodge headquarters – 667 acres of natural rainforest within the Cave of the Maruaga environmental protection area. Our site is located just outside the township of Presidente Figueiredo at Km 144 of the BR-174 Manaus-Boa Vista highway, which leads to Venezuela. During this two-hour drive journey, you will witness the vegetation change from colonized deforested areas to virgin rainforest.
On your way to the lodge, you will also have the chance to see the beautiful local crafts, tapestries, books, jewelry and other one-of-a-kind souvenirs at Waimiri Atrorari’s indigenous store, located in the small town of Presidente Figueiredo. Leaving the town, we will visit one of the refreshing waterfalls that this area is known for. The hike to the waterfall takes 10 minutes, and the landscape is beautiful – with moss-covered trees, bromelias and orchids everywhere. This trail ends with a spectacular waterfall.
You’ll arrive at the Amazon Emotions Jungle Lodge with a warm welcome and plenty of time to take in the view, calmly settle in and meet for an orientation snack with our team. A typical Amazonian dinner will also be served at the jungle lodge. Tucked in the world’s richest rainforest, our family owned and operated venture allows us to share the wonders of the Amazon with visitors while preserving the environment.
(Day 1: L, D)
Day 2 – Amazon Emotions Jungle Lodge / Canopy Tour
Venture higher into the rainforest to explore the treetops on a canopy tour. Our tree climbing adventure begins with an Angelim Tree (Dinizia excelsa), soaring 200 feet above the forest floor, specially selected for your adventure. You’ll receive thorough instructions in tree climbing techniques, and your guide will be alongside you as you ascend into the canopy. Once high up in the tree, there will be a canvas hammock waiting for you to rest, relax and observe Amazon nature life from a bird’s eye view. The canvas hammock is safely and securely tied to the tree and your safety rope remains locked and secured, permitting you to relax and enjoy your experience in this marvelous treetop canopy.
The forest is transformed completely at dusk: sounds and smells are intensified and other senses are awakened. On a night experience, unlike a daytime ascent, our guests find the beauty in the small details, such as the croaking of frogs or the hum of insects. And if you turn off your flashlight you can observe the sparkle of fireflies in the woods, or hear the flutter of bats. When you turn on the lights again you can see the reflection of hundreds of tiny insect eyes all around. As we come down from the tree and make our way back to the lodge you can hear the call of cicadas, owls and other night birds. Enjoy your evening dinner at our jungle lodge, learn more about the family’s efforts to preserve the land and the traditions of the local people.
(Day 2: B, L, D)
Day 3 – Exploring the Rainforest Wilderness / Optional Camping Experience
Explore the rainforest by foot. At every turn, our guides reveal the secrets of the rainforest, helping spot creatures we would never see on our own given the amazing camouflage of so many masterfully adapted species. Where dry ground exists, step ashore for rainforest walks, keeping an eye out for a host of birds: large-billed terns, laughing falcons, gray tanagers, snowy egrets, horned screamers, tiger herons, short-tailed parrots, parakeets and perhaps the flashy scarlet macaw.
This private ecological reserve focuses on conservation, environmental education, and training in sustainable land use and resource production. Trails through primary rainforest reveal a wide variety of plants and animals in their natural habitat, including more than 150 different kinds of birds including a great diversity of hummingbirds, along with spider monkeys, howler monkeys, coati, brocket deer, tamandua anteaters, peccaries and the elusive ocelot. A top attraction is the morpho butterfly, colored in vivid blue color with shiny wings that reflect the light, making them easy to spot amidst the jungle canopy. They are one of the largest butterflies in the world; their wing span measures up to 20 centimeters. Venture out into the jungle with your local guide for the opportunity to spot unusual insects and animals.
After your walk, enjoy a soak in one of the fresh springs near the base camp, where a small stream of freshwater, known as igarapé, offers a natural massage. Enjoy a picnic lunch before further nature viewing. You have the afternoon to explore the jungle, focusing on surviving in the wilderness. As optional activity, you will set up your own hammock on the camp site; this will be your home for the night. The jungle base camp provides basic accommodations within the native environment; open to the fresh air and natural forest sounds, allowing for an authentic rainforest camping experience. Learn to slow down and tune in your senses, becoming an active part of the local ecology. Beneath a starry sky you’ll enjoy the evening’s open camp fire and dinner, where guests congregate and chat over the day’s events.
(Day 3: B, L, D)
Day 4 – Jungle Lodge / Manaus
Enjoy a sprawling breakfast spread at the Jungle Lodge. Either your Active Wilderness Journey comes to a close here, as you leave for Manaus to catch a flight home or to your next destination, or you can continue the Amazonian experience by adding on the Rio Negro to the Meeting of the Waters boat excursion.
(Day 4: B)
B: Breakfast, L: Lunch, D: Dinner

Min / Max Group Size
1 people / 7 people
Small group sizes are the best way to experience nature, and this is especially true for our photographic adventures. With only 7 travelers, you’ll receive plenty of space and personalized attention when needed. As a small group, we maintain the flexibility to adapt to changing conditions in a way that maximizes photo opportunities – we’ll depart early in the morning to chase the best light, remain at a site of specific photographic interest to fully explore the potential, or move to a new destination when desired. Our three expedition leaders, including two expert naturalists and a photo guide, are always available to answer your questions, provide tips and techniques, and to help you better understand and photograph this amazing region of the world as we split into the smallest possible groups on shore.
Nature walks on our excursions are generally easy and tend to move at a slow pace in order to better spot wildlife. Bear in mind that it is hot and humid in the Amazon year-round, and during rainy season walking through mud on the trails may be necessary. Walking in the heat and humidity of the tropics can make the walks more challenging than expected, and the terrain is very uneven. There are no flat trails for the most part. The daily walks are flexible as routes will vary depending on changing weather patterns and seasonal differences in the regions visited.
Tree Climbing Knowledge and Group Training
No prior climbing experience is necessary. Ascending the tree is comparable to hiking a steep trail with a daypack. Our expert guides outfit you in specially designed tree climbing harnesses appropriately adjusted for your size. When the time to climb comes, our guides will provide adequate training for each member of the group before setting out. Part of this preparation includes asking for medical information that the Amazon Emotion’s team evaluates for providing an optimal experience for each customer.
To protect your investment and provide peace of mind while traveling, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and even lost luggage. Please contact us if you would like more information about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer.
